Are You Feeling Lost, Sad, Numb?

A friend recently posted the following on Facebook:

“How many of you feel a little lost right now professionally? Not sure why you are doing what you are doing. Maybe a little sad – depressed, but mostly numb, like nothing f’n lights you up…How is your journey going?”

As I was reading through the comments before I wrote one of my own I had a flash of a memory. There is a road I occasionally find myself on when coming home. It is very familiar to me as I’ve been taking it for years. But, after dark it’s a whole other thing.

There is one curvy forest patch about a mile long, that is not lit. I always get surprised and scared thinking that I have been daydreaming while driving and I’ve gotten onto a wrong road. There are no streetlights, no stop and go lights, no cross streets so I stay on the road hoping I’ll eventually see some kind of sign so I’ll know which way to go.

And then, just as suddenly as I went into the dark unknown, before me are lights and the big familiar intersection. I breathe a sigh of relief knowing that I didn’t get lost. I have been on the right road all along.

From my friend’s post and many of the comments, it sounds like that’s what a lot of people are going through in life right now. We’re afraid we’re lost and we don’t know where we’re going.

The good news is, you are really on the right road. You just won’t know that for a while. Keep walking, and you’ll walk into the answer.

It’s Never Too Soon To Give An End-Of-Life Goodbye

It’s never too soon to give an End-of-Life goodbye. – Three months ago I gave Joe that kind of goodbye because I thought our connection was over. I felt compelled to say to him what was on my heart – thank you for all the good you brought into my life; I apologize for irritating you; while we don’t get along now I wish you well and look forward to the next lifetime we are together harmoniously.

We wound up continuing to talk but his out-of-context anger grew. So, I had to completely and permanently walk away. Exactly one month later, at only 59, Joe suddenly passed away after a stroke. Because of my prior goodbye to him, and leaving nothing else unsaid I am completely clear and complete.

Yes I am grieving for the loss of the Joe who was gentle and kind and generous. And, I am sad that he was so deeply emotionally tortured that he couldn’t find his way out other than by bursting away from this life. But I will cherish all I learned in this short dance with him, and am forever grateful I understood it’s never too soon to give an End-of-Life goodbye.

Do Successful People Have Different DNA?

I have found some of the best mentors for me are those who acknowledge their current struggles as well as the insights that have brought them success. It breaks the illusion that successful people have different “DNA” than the average person; which feeds the false belief that “I can never do what they are doing.” Whether it’s feeling different and alone, productivity struggles, or fears of upsetting people I think it’s helpful to understand everyone has stuff they are going through as well as tremendous strengths and talents.

Ha – that made me think of receiving a gift that comes in one of those nearly impossible to open plastic cases or battery needed things that do not come with the battery. They are great gifts and a pain all at the same time. I imagine there are people who have considered me a gift and a pain all rolled into one. If we realize that every single person on the planet is a gift and a pain rolled into one perhaps our tolerance of those whom we initially see as pain will grow into greater acceptance. And then, we decide to explore more deeply how those people are really a gift.

Guilt Babies

guilt babies
I’ve been hearing from a number of people this week that they are procrastinating and feeling guilty about it. These conversations came after I reposted an article called Resistance vs Inspired Inaction on a new wellness blog I’m helping a friend launch.

One of my clients guilt was growing because they kept focusing on it. I named this “Guilt Babies” as whatever you focus on you get more of.

I worked on getting rid of the energetic roots of her guilt and thought about how one might handle guilt in other ways. Getting my infant daughter to sleep through the night flashed in my mind. The experts said to let the baby cry it out and after three days she will sleep through the night. I tried that and it worked. So, with guilt babies – ignore it and it should go away in three days. If it doesn’t that’s when I would suggest energy optimizations to resolve the root of the guilt.

Magical Manifestation

First, I’d like to thank my mother for teaching me the importance of quality, my father for his calm attention to order and detail, and my Art History 102 teacher for showing me that the expression of passion is contagious and can awaken a room of sleeping students. I’d also like to thank Peak Potentials for teaching me more than I can say, AHO! Thanks Linna, and Terrie, who encouraged me to register for the Quantum Leap program; to my CEOSpace family – you are oxygen; to Shai Amiel, Ellen Kratka, Leigh Russell, Sheila Baker, Libbe HaLevy, Seth Himrod, Linda Kaye, Lewis S. Lewis, Patsy Anderson, Suzy Prudden, Dr. Kevin; and to the yellow kitchen chair from my childhood that was the first to call me to do something radical.

Dr. Bruce Lipton once said, “The moment you change your perception is the moment you rewrite the chemistry of your body.”

Once Upon A Time there was a sweet girl named Barbara. She dreamed that she was acknowledged for her awesome accomplishments. She stepped onto the stage and was presented with an amazing award. She saw herself making a speech to thank everyone who had made this moment possible. And even more wonderful, all of her friends got really excited and they celebrated with her. Everyone was so very happy and cheerful and felt close to each other. They thought, “Wow, I am friends with someone who has done something really special! And I’m special too.” They all smiled, feeling their hearts warm. And they all lived happily ever after, finding ways to bring cheer and delight to all the world. And so it is.

When I approached the gate for my United flight to Los Angeles and saw the backdrop, lights, and a United employee holding an Emmy , I asked if the award was there for VIPs. I was then invited to hold this symbol of excellence and achievement and have my picture taken. Of course I said “Yes!” In that moment I imagined the heightened energy of being the award recipient. I created the feeling of having an Emmy of my own, so I was actually implanting that future moment in my consciousness—now I know what I am aiming for as I work towards it. It’s a symbol of my excellence and effectiveness in the world.

Exhilarating is the only word to describe this entire experience. From the moment I got to my gate, I felt the excitement. The presence of the paparazzi, the red carpet leading us onto the plane, the champagne and “cheers” we sang during the flight, and the bright lights of Access Hollywood’s cameras were all quite fun.

From the time I knew I’d get to hold an Emmy in my own hands, through today, I have been experiencing the Emmy awards and the awards telecast in a whole new light. I relate to the nominees and the winners with a deeper understanding of what they are experiencing.

And, of course, there’s the irreverent me—thinking , Hey, I can have some of my own fun and post this picture of me with the Emmy on Facebook the morning AFTER the Emmy Award show, say “My First Emmy”, and see what happens. It is true that this is my first Emmy—first time to see one in person, first time to hold one in my hands, and the first time to be photographed with one.

When I decided to post this photo on Facebook, I intended to do an explanation a day or two later. I also thought it could create a lot of excitement when people saw my photo. That would be a lot of fun! I even came up with an answer to the question “What did you win it for?” – The Hummingbird Tales – An autobiographical series on shifting things at the quantum level to create change and excitement and always be at the right place, at the right time.

The response from Facebook friends has been overwhelming. It far exceeds Facebook birthday greetings. And just as Bruce Lipton said about changing the chemistry in your body I feel changed. Perhaps those who got excited for me are changed and/or elevated in their own chemistry. Although this Emmy was only temporarily mine, the feeling from the waves of congratulations from over 130 Facebook friends will stay with me always.

This experience has given me a new perspective on what is possible. I now feel some of what it’s like to win such an award. Several years ago, when my athlete client won her first Olympic Gold Medal, after I worked with her just prior to her final run, I felt like I had won an Olympic Gold Medal along with her. (See my story “Going for Gold” published in the book, Speaking Your Truth: Courageous Stories from Inspiring Women Volume 2). These feelings are priceless!

This Emmy experience is a little different since it’s about possibilities for the future. In elevating how I feel in this present moment, what might be possible for the future? How does even my achievement of holding a real Emmy impact what will happen from here? I’m so excited to see how things go from here forward!

They say that past, present, and future lives happen simultaneously. As for me, I relish all your present-day congratulations and apply them to the future when I receive my Emmy for the work I do that becomes an award winning television program. Medium, the TV show about a psychic, was a popular show. There are lots of medical shows, so why not a show about energy healing? It could be anything from a documentary to a sitcom. In any case, The Hummingbird Tales is real because my life is real, and I sure have a lot of tales to tell about my life and the work I do. And it truly is a fact that shifting things at the quantum level puts one at the right place—at the right time.

For all the work I’ve done in my life to be at this right place, at this right time, I celebrate with you now and thank you so much for your congratulations.

What have I learned? CELEBRATE ALL YOUR WINS AND ALL THE WINS OF OTHERS! Even the small ones. And DREAM BIG! Allow yourself to enjoy the present moment, no matter how minor the accomplishment may seem. You never know where those present moments will take you in the future.

New Report Confirms You Are Most Interesting, Most Important Individual On Earth

reprinted from theonion.com

CHAPEL HILL, NC—A comprehensive report released this week by researchers at the University of North Carolina confirmed widely held assumptions that you are the most significant and interesting person currently inhabiting the earth.

Drawing from the results of a six-year study that carefully analyzed thousands of hours of your actions and conversations, the 220-page report concluded that your ideas and opinions far surpass those of the other 7.1 billion people on the planet in terms of substance, depth, and general importance to the world.

“Throughout our study, we found clear and overwhelming evidence that you are not only the most compelling member of the human race, but also the most important, and by a wide margin,” said the study’s lead author Samuel Lerman, who noted that you are also far more noteworthy than all individuals who have ever previously existed in human history. “There is a statistically significant gap between what you and the rest of humanity have to offer in terms of wit, charm, intelligence, creativity, and observational ability. Indeed, we found that the dynamic nature of your personality is of immeasurable value to society.”

“Our findings also confirm that your insights on everything from politics to entertainment to social issues to religion are the most notable and well-thought-out,” continued Lerman, adding that your viewpoints roundly trump the countless competing beliefs offered by the rest of the world’s population. “You are, in short, the only person who matters. The rest of us do not matter.”

The report stated that people crave to hear from you at all times, asserting that your thoughts are the most profound, your stories the most gripping, and your approval the most desired. The study also demonstrated that no one else alive today has anything as perceptive and as consequential to say as you do, with researchers noting that when you choose to speak you are exceedingly captivating and enjoyable to listen to in a way that no other human being could ever approach.

Furthermore, clinical observations showed that when you are not around, conversations among others invariably revert to speculation about what you are currently doing and what you would say about the discussion at hand. The report also confirmed that your words serve as a highly desired and desperately needed reprieve from the monotony and meaninglessness of what everyone else has to say.

You are the center of everything, the report added.

“We found that what other people think or experience is completely irrelevant when compared to even the most minor thoughts and experiences in your everyday life,” said Lerman, noting that only the things you see, do, say, and learn have any significance at all. “The data clearly show that your feelings are the most authentic, your experiences are the richest, and your perspectives are the most unique. Frankly, the world only wants to hear about you and your life and nothing else. Indeed, that’s what we all long for at every moment.”

The sociologist affirmed that all other humans on earth define their lives largely in relation to you and your existence, and reiterated the report’s recommendation that you continue to make your views and ideas known as loudly and frequently as possible to eliminate any lingering doubts among the global populace regarding your supreme importance.

“The evidence conclusively shows that you, and you alone, provide meaning to everyone else in your workplace, your social network, and your family, as well as to all the strangers that you interact with only momentarily each day,” said Lerman, who highlighted data indicating that others’ sense of fulfillment is derived solely from the opportunity to work, live, and exist alongside you. “Without you, these groups and individuals—as well as society in general—would just drift aimlessly, feeling empty and incomplete.”

Lerman went on to state that you were and have always been the primary figure on the planet, noting that the worth and merit of every person, institution, and cultural phenomenon on earth hinged wholly on your personal perceptions and judgments about them.

“Our research definitively proves that when you go to sleep each night, the world’s entire narrative stops, and that it then restarts again as soon as you wake up,” Lerman said. “And according to our findings, when you die, all of this—the whole universe and everything in it—will end.”

“It is scientifically indisputable that you are the single most important and fundamental being in existence,” Lerman added. “You are commensurate with the sun, the moon, the stars. In fact, you are the sum of all of these and more.”

The report summarized its results by concluding, “You, you, you, you.”

Resistance vs Inspired Inaction

Steven Pressfield, the author of The War of Art says “Resistance is the only thing getting in the way of achieving your greatest successes.” However there is a resistance everyone uses every day that is one of our greatest successes. We learned that resistance as a young child so we no longer wear diapers.

Granted there is resistance that does get in the way of achieving great success. That resistance shows up in the form of procrastination, lack of motivation, insecurities, self doubt, fear.

However I think there is something else that we might think is resistance but it’s not. It’s what I call “Inspired Inaction.” Inspired inaction is when we are being guided to wait. You know, like waiting for a bus is not resistance to riding the bus. We have to wait for the bus to arrive or we’ll miss it.

My question is “How do you tell the difference between resistance and inspired inaction especially if the inspired inaction is misinterpreted as lack of motivation?

What are your thoughts on this?
